COMPLETE AND DETAILED SURFACE PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS
Most first time appliers average 40-55 square feet per bag.
It is important to use our special applicator. It is NOT a paint applicator, but has short stiff bristles that are designed to roll out the FIBRE DECOR.
FIBRE DECOR is similar to wallpaper in that it has dye lots. Mixing dye lots is acceptable providing they are thoroughly mixed and used in the same application. To avoid any possibility of color or texture variations between bags, be sure you mix enough FIBRE DECOR in one mixing operation to completely cover each section, area or wall.
In application, if it appears your mixture will be short, mix the remaining necessary amount into the first mixture as soon as possible.
IMPORTANCE OF UNDERCOATING FIBRE DECOR is a water based product which can take from 24 - 48 hours to dry. For this reason, it is very important to seal the surface on which FIBRE DECOR is being applied to prevent it from bleeding through the FIBRE DECOR and staining it.
Special care must be taken on surfaces where high staining agents, such as nicotine, exist to ensure the surface is well sealed before application of FIBRE DECOR. Wash all surfaces with TSP cleaner unless oil based primer is required. "T.S.P." - Trisodium Phosphate. Use only white pigmented primers.
HIGH GLOSS / SEMI-GLOSS PAINT Rough up surface by washing with TSP solution or prime with one coat of High Quality Primer Sealer / Stain Killer.
UNPAINTED & PAINTED SURFACES On surfaces painted with two or more coats of flat white paint, it is safe to apply FIBRE DECOR providing the wall has been washed to ensure it is absolutely clean.
NOTE: It is always recommended to seal most unsealed surfaces with a High Quality Primer Sealer / Stain Killer before applying FIBRE DECOR. In some cases, it may be necessary to apply a second coat of primer if the first coat has not sealed the wall properly and produced a solid white background. Speeding up the drying process by using an oscillating fan to blow air on the wall will greatly reduce the chance of staining due to an insufficiently primed wall.
WOOD PANELING / WOOD VENEER / RAW WOOD / CEMENT WALLS / BLOCK WALLS a) Fill in joints and grooves with a polyfiller/Joint Compound (sanding not required) b) Two coats of High Quality Oil Based Primer / Sealer / Stain Killer (allow time to cure between coats).
WALLPAPER a) Remove wallpaper and prime surface with High Quality Oil Based Primer Sealer / Stain Killer. b) If removal seems impossible, prime thoroughly with a High Quality Oil Based Primer Sealer / Stain Killer. c) Be sure surface has solid white background.
NOTE: Failure to properly seal the surface may cause stains on FIBRE DECOR products!
BATHROOMS / KITCHENS a) Avoid areas where FIBRE DECOR will be in direct contact with water. b) Average humidity will not disturb the surface of FIBRE DECOR under normal conditions. c) If extremely high humidity exists, treat wall surface with a water repellent such as Scotch Guard thoroughly, after FIBRE DECOR has dried completely.
